Word searches designed to be easy to read
Newspaper word searches use 15 × 15 grids in 8 or 9-point type, with diagonal and backwards words. They are made to save paper, not to be read with tired eyes. These are the opposite: one word search per A4 page, a 10 × 10 grid with big letters, eight words on one theme, in two directions only.
They suit older adults, people whose eyesight is starting to go, children learning to read and anyone after a relaxing puzzle. They all print in black and white, with no backgrounds or colours to waste ink.
Getting more out of them
- Talk about the theme. Before starting, say the theme out loud and think together of words that might be in it. Then see which ones were.
- A finger or a ruler. Following the rows with a finger or a ruler makes it much easier not to lose your place.
- No stopwatch. It is not a race: better to finish slowly than to give up halfway.
And for a word search with your own words, the word search maker does it in a minute.
More large-print sheets
Word searches also come mixed with other activities in the large-print activity sheets. There are also easy large-print crosswords, attention exercises, memory activities and finish the proverb sheets.
