Why on paper
There are still plenty of situations where paper wins: a memory workshop in a care home, a classroom with no tablets, a train journey, or simply the habit of solving with a pencil and an eraser. On paper you can scribble in the margin with a freedom no interface matches.
That is why these pages are designed to print properly, instead of being a watered-down version of the website: the puzzles take up the room they need, the solutions go on their own sheet with a page break, and everything that gets in the way — menu, text, advertising — disappears when you print.
What is on each sheet
The sudokus come four to a page, across five levels: a 4×4 and a 6×6 to warm up, and three 9×9 grids with 40, 32 and 26 clues. You can reshuffle the batch as many times as you like, and decide whether the solutions get printed.
The arrow words are sixty grids of our own in three levels (8×10, 10×13 and 11×15), one per page with the answers separate, or a booklet of all twenty in a level. The same page lets you solve them in your browser, with checking and a timer.
The mysteries are 240 logic cases where you place five suspects on a floor plan by following the clues, and work out who was left alone with the victim. They come six at a time, mixing levels or from the level you pick, with the solutions at the end. It is the format that murdoku made popular; these cases are our own.
Large-print sheets for seniors
One activity per A4 page, 20-point type or bigger and the answers kept separate. Made for care homes, day centres, memory groups and family carers:
- Memory activities: the shopping list, reality orientation, reminiscence questions and more.
- Attention exercises: spot the letter, odd one out, mazes and copying shapes.
- Maths worksheets: sums, money and change, and telling and drawing the time on analogue clocks.
- Finish the proverb: well-known English proverbs, none made up, to finish or match up.
- Large-print word searches and easy crosswords.
- Reality orientation worksheets: the calendar, special days, the four seasons and putting things in order.
- Word games: complete the words, same meaning, what’s the word and words beginning with…
- Spot the difference: picture puzzles, counting shapes, following paths and symmetry.
- Reminiscence activities: memories of the 1950s to the 1980s, things from the past and old jobs.
- And the large-print activity sheets, which mix nine kinds and include a booklet with one of each.
How to save it as a PDF
Open the page you want, hit «Print» and, in the browser dialog, change the destination to «Save as PDF» (on Windows it may show up as «Microsoft Print to PDF»). It works in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari with nothing to install, and the document you get is the same one that would come out on paper.
If you are actually going to print, two settings help: A4 size and default margins — the layout already leaves 12 mm — and 100 % scale rather than «fit to page», which sometimes shrinks the cells more than it needs to.
Every puzzle has one solution, and it has been checked
No puzzle on these sheets admits two solutions. That is not a marketing promise: the sudokus are generated by emptying cells only while the solution stays the only possible one, and the mystery cases are verified by walking all 14,400 arrangements the board allows. A puzzle with two solutions forces you to guess, and on paper that is especially annoying, because there is no undo button.
Paper or screen?
It depends what for. On screen you get instant checking, notes that rub themselves out and nothing to spend: those are the online games. On paper you get the freedom to annotate however you like, zero distractions, and something you can hand out to ten people at once.
And for a daily routine with tracking, streaks and fourteen different puzzles, that is the app, which works the same in your browser and on your phone.
